My mood is driven almost entirely by my own obsessive neurosis, but all that stops once I hit the shuffle button and find a new vibe to coast on. Tuesday’s are always a feel, especially after a long weekend. Getting into a good groove for the day sounds like a nice cool jam to get through these hot times we have rolling in. Not much else nudges me into that space better than some of my favorite Fleetwood Mac tunes. Today’s cut comes out of the number two shuffle spot in the form of “Never Forget.”
Music can sway my mood in a matter of seconds. The shuffle game is a precise practice that will either get you to your destination feeling surprised and refreshed, disappointed and distracted, or moving from five different vibes all in the span of 30 minutes.
Once “Never Forget” neared its end I made sure to cut the chord before the next track could swoop me off my feet and take me away towards another vibe. (For research purposes I had to check. Turns out track number three came by the way of Trapped Under Ice...good thing we got off the train quick.)
The shuffle game gives me a unique look into my music library which spans almost 20 years of finding and downloading/purchasing music. If I’m searching for a mood but don’t know what exactly, the shuffle game almost always gets the job done. It helps me choose what I want and gives me the tunnel vision to find the right key and get to that door quickest.
Fleetwood Mac can be many different vibes rolled into one beautiful group of people. Today’s cut reminds me of their softer side. A side I love dearly and can navigate with ease. “Never Forget” presented me with an already laid out brain path. My favorite artists have crime scene maps pinned up on the wall that connect every song to each other. I.E. song A goes to song G, but never to song R unless it comes from song W. Of course these songs can lead to others. Some with more rock to their skip and others with hints of pop and easy listening. For me it’s the calmness of the tracks, the intensity of the instruments, and the subject matter that defines my vibe. These songs vary in that scheme, but they fit together like puzzle pieces when you’re in a relaxing mood.
