Two years in a row on the top of the list. Make way for my most listened to song on Spotify for consecutive years. The Spotify Wrapped is one of the most shared pieces of information (I think) on the internet. At least it feels that way every time the music app shares its faithful subscriber's analytics. I wasn't surprised to see my old friend in the top spot on my list again. Filled with smooth, clean, and crispy ups and downs, "Bumpin' on Sunset" settles in to sooth the soul and make it happy.
Seemingly never ending, Jazz has become, by far, my favorite genre over the past five years. Filled with extensive sub-genres, feels, moods, stylings, and instrumentation, Jazz hails over all else wearing a gold crown, a tailored suit, a linen shirt, baggy clothes, shorts, leather shoes, sneakers, and almost anything else you could think of. Much like Wes Montgomery, Jazz is cool, it's hip, it's freedom, and it's creative. I love Jazz at all points in the day, subconsciously thinking about it and playing it in my head. It is my happy place and my relaxation zone.
The formula for streams is, at least for me, a simple calculation of times reading plus times drumming. Bumpin’ has found its way onto two of my most listened to playlists appropriately named: Songs to Play and Instrumentals for J. With a list of tunes to practice drums to and another list created specifically for studying and reading we’ve got a perfect storm.
Partnering with its genre, Bumpin’ crosses the line of relaxation and motion cohesively intertwining itself into different aspects of my life. It’s there to add a delightful backing when I’m nose deep in a new book and it’s there when I’m looking to work on my chops on the kit. In my mind, Bumpin’ is a perfect piece of music that successful falls into any aspect of life.
Whether you’re a reader or not or whether you enjoy other music over Jazz, I highly suggest popping on some Wes Montgomery, specifically Bumpin’ on Sunset, and see where it takes you. Don’t worry, you don’t have to listen to it today, it’s not the cut of the day, it’s the cut of the year. There’s plenty of time to entice your life.
